Jack's Free Pick Friday: Sacramento Kings +8

The Cleveland Cavaliers are way overvalued right now due to winning nine straight while going 8-1 ATS in the process.  The Sacramento Kings are undervalued due to having lost seven straight coming in.  This has created the perfect storm and a ton of line value for us to back the Kings as 8-point road underdogs tonight.

Cleveland will be without Lebron James tonight as he misses a second straight game with a knee injury.  The Cavaliers are just 2-8 without James this season.  Yes, they did beat the Blazers 99-94 at home last time out without James, but Kyrie Irving needed a career-high 55 points to get it done.  He's not about to put up another performance like that tonight.

The Kings have lost seven in a row coming in, which is concerning, but they've also played a gauntlet of a schedule during this stretch.  They have played six teams that would be in the playoffs if the season ended today, including the Mavericks, Clippers, Blazers, Warriors and Raptors.  Four of their seven losses came by single-digits, so they have been competitive.

The Kings have won four of their last five meetings with the Cavaliers, including a 103-84 home victory in their first meeting of 2014-15.  Sacramento is 6-1 ATS in its last seven trips to Cleveland.  The underdog is 10-3-1 ATS in the last 14 meetings in this series.  Bet the Kings Friday.

The Cavaliers are currently on a seven game win streak and are coming off an impressive victory over the Trail Blazers in which LeBron James did not play. James is not expected to play again tonight, but that shouldn't be a problem with the way this team has been playing. Sacramento has dropped the last seven games and are allowing almost 115 points per game on the road in their last eight games. The Cavaliers are beginning to take pride in their defense, so expect them to lock down Cousins and hand the Kings their longest losing streak since 2010.

As long as Cleveland can control the glass and Kyrie is shooting anywhere near as well as he was Wednesday the Cavaliers should have no problem covering the spread. Look for Mozgov to play Cousins tough and hold him under his season average of 23.8 points.Cleveland is 5-0 ATS in the last five home games.Sacramento is 1-7 ATS in the last eight road games.Cleveland is 7-1 ATS in their last eight games overall.

Cavs -6.5.

Chicago Bulls vs. Phoenix Suns
Phoenix Suns

Play on Game #818 Phoenix Suns -5.5

I like Phoenix to pull away in this game and to win by double digits. The situation clearly favors them tonight. The Bulls are playing their 3rd road game in 4 nights. After having to come from behind to beat Golden State in overtime on Tuesday, they had to rally last night only to lose into double overtime vs. the Lakers. Rose has now played 40+ minutes in his last 2 games and I think that his legs will be tired tonight as he has been limited in minutes played for the most part this season. Also Noah played 42 minutes and he has been out with an injury and I have to question his endurance as well.

For Phoenix, they just beat Washington easily on Wednesday night when the Wizards were playing on a back-to-back. They won by 8 points but were up 17 points at the half and played some reserves in the 4th quarter.

The Suns are averaging 110 ppg over their last 5 games. They are shooting 47% from the floor, compared to the Bulls only shooting 43% from the floor over their last 5 games. I do no think that the Bulls will top 100 points in this game and I see the Suns pushing the pace, getting out in transition and putting up 108 points or better, which is their average at home.

This is more of a play against the Bulls than anything else. I feel like them coming off back-to-back overtime games and playing their 3rd road game in 4 nights is a lot to ask of them, especially considering the minutes that Rose and Noah played last night. Phoenix is a team that can get out and run and I think they will keep the fresh legs on the floor tonight and should be able to pull away and cover this spread with ease.

Houston Rockets vs. Boston Celtics
Houston Rockets

Free Pick on Houston Rockets -

I think we are getting some solid value here with the Rockets at the current line. Houston comes in having won 3 straight and are coming off a big home win over the Mavericks. Most importantly, the Rockets have been just as good on the road (16-7) as they have at home (16-7).

The Celtics had covered 5 straight prior to losing 98-110 at Minnesota in the last game of a 6-game road trip. With just 1-day off, I look for the Celtics to struggle to find the energy needed to keep up with the Rockets up-termpo attack. It's also worth noting that in Boston's last 5 home games, they are 1-4 with all 4 losses coming by at least 9 points.

The Celtics lost by 14 at Houston (90-104) earlier this season and are just 4-13 ATS over the last 2 seasons at home when revenging a loss of 10 or more points. Boston is also a mere 8-20 ATS in their last 28 after covering 3 of their last 4 and 2-11 ATS in their last 13 home games after allowing 110+ points in their last game.

Adding to this is a strong system. Road favorites of 3.5 to 9.5 points 42+ games into the season, who are an explosive offensive team (102+ ppg) against an average offensive team (98-102 ppg) are 81-42 ATS since 1996. That's a 66% system in favor of the Rockets. Take Houston!

Golden State Warriors vs. Utah Jazz
Golden State Warriors
-9-109

If you’ve been betting the Warriors blindly for the better part of the season, you’re a rich man. The odds makers can’t make this line high enough because Golden State just continues to cover. They shouldn’t have any trouble covering by double digits here, especially coming off of a loss.

Golden State lost to the Bulls in overtime on Tuesday. Any contentment or “boredom” of winning should now be erased and we’ll look for the classic blow out performance from this team vs. inferior competition. The Warriors have an advantage at the guard position wherever they go, but they have a big one tonight. The “splash brothers” are going to have monster games and run the Jazz right out of their own gym.

I mention the guard play because the Jazz backcourt was torched in their most recent loss to the Clippers. Utah has now lost 7 of 10 overall and this loss would be 3 in a row. Salt Lake City has been thought of for so many years as a tough place to go on the road but Utah is just 8-14 at home this season. Golden State has beaten the Jazz 6 straight times and with a red hot Klay Thompson (37.7ppg last 3) they’ll blow them out again tonight. Take the Warriors.

Play on: (814) Miami+ over Dallas @ 8:05 Eastern

When you’re catching this many at home there has to be a good reason for Vegas itching the opening number.  Perhaps the real key is guard Wade being out of the lineup for the Heat.  In addition, Dallas has covered at a 13-3-1 clip in Miami.  Still, we don’t believe the Mavs can cover this large opener considering they are on a 0-4 SU & ATS run.  The losses were to Houston, Memphis, New Orleans and Chicago.  Overall Dallas has a favorable net point differential of almost 18 points in the matchup, but this does not necessarily project a spread victory.  Home standing Miami has won 7 straight in the series.

The Mavs (30-17) are 22-24-1 ATS, whereas Miami (20-25) is 20-23-2 ATS.  Dallas comes in 16-9 SU on the road, Miami 8-14 SU at home.  The Mavs show 3-12-1 ATS after an ATS loss and 0-7-1 ATS off a SU loss. Miami with a 4-0 ATS mark off a SU loss.

Play - Boston Celtics.

Edges - Celtics: 5-0 ATS last five games as a dog; and 3-0 ATS off SU DD loss versus non-conference foe off SU win this season.  Rockets: 2-11 ATS away after Mavericks versus foe off SUATS loss. With the Celtics looking to avenge a 14-point loss suffered at Houston on opening day this season, the points become the play here tonight.  We recommend a 1-unit play on Boston.  Thank you and good luck as always.

Play On road favorites of 3.5 to 9.5 points like DALLAS after being beaten by the spread by 24 or more points total in their last three games, against opponent after going under the total by 54 or more points total in their last ten games. Obviously the Mavericks have underachieved of late,  but the oddsmakers are making them a good-sized away favorite for a reason and Miami will all their injuries is having problems scoring, which places them in a tough spot. In the past 19 years teams like Dallas are 31-8 ATS in this exact situation.

1/30 07:05 PM EST  NBA   (801) MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES VS (802) PHILADELPHIA 76ERS
Take: (802) PHILADELPHIA 76ERS
Reason: Your free play for Friday, January 30, 2015 comes in the NBA as Minnesota and the 76ers meet in Philadelphia. Minnesota is off a rare win, but it was against a Boston team winding down a 6-game trip. This Minnesota team is still 21st in points scored, 26th in rebounds, as well as 30th in points allowed. They are dead last in the league defensively allowing .493% shooting. The Timberwolves are 4-11 ATS playing on one days rest. Philadelphia is off a big win, as Mike Carter-Williams had 14 points and 10 assists, Robert Covington scored 19 points and the 76ers had an 89-69 win over the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night. The 76ers are 9-4 ATS against a team with a winning percentage below .400. Play the 76ers.
