2009 College Football Prediction for South Florida Bulls

2009 South Florida Football Betting Odds: Over 8 Wins -110 , Under 8 Wins -130

Considering the amount of talent they’ve had, South Florida has underachieved in my mind the last two seasons. Yes, they pummeled Memphis in their bowl game last season and finished 8-5 but early in the season they were ranked as high as number 10 in the country. This year’s squad returns only 12 starters and pre-season predictions have them finishing third or fourth in the conference by most experts. However, quarterback Matt Grothe returns for his final season at South Florida. Grothe needs to be more consistent as a passer in order for this team to make to a BCS Bowl. The Bulls should be able to run the ball more effectively in ’09 as starting tailback Mike Ford seems to be at full strength after suffering an injury plagued season in 2008. At wide-out, South Florida has a lot of weapons particularly Dontavia Bogan and A.J. Love who have emerged as serious deep threats for Grothe. The skill players are intact but the offensive line must replace three starters and is the biggest concern on the offensive side of the ball.

The defensive line should be stout led by two-time All-American defensive end George Selvie. The secondary got torched in key games last season and must improve in pressure situations in order for this defense to be a good one. The Bulls have a few tough road games at Florida State, at Pitt, and at Rutgers. However, they also have some tough home games as well. This team has potential but I have them finishing at 8-4, right on the number odds makers have posted for their regular season win total.
